The Topic of Accessibility is Hard, but Implementation isn’t.

Not sure what we mean by accessibility? Don’t think it has anything to do with you?

The Web is afflicted with sites that are simply inoperative to people who must rely on assistive technologies…Take a look at this video to understand where accessibility could fit into your digital strategy.

Accessibility is good for business.

Web accessibility is NOT only about disability, it’s about universality… or at least it should be. The web allows everyone an equal chance to promote their business; therefore, businesses should be giving all potential browsers an equal chance to view their websites.

Consider the statistics and how the lack of accessibility could be affecting your business. In North America 12% of the population live with some form of a registered disability, which works out to be roughly 60 million people.

An aging population will push these figures even higher, so good business sense suggests that accessibility is a key market for every website and digital footprint.

Most adults suffer from disabilities or difficulties at some point in their lives, this can be mitigated through the implementation of accessible technologies. You can save time and resources by understanding and applying techniques that bv02 can share with you to integrate accessibility into your digital properties.

It’s the law! Governments are mandating…

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) is a framework that mandates specific milestones over several years with which all organizations in Ontario must comply. The AODA is quite complex, dealing with many aspects of your business, incorporating guidelines that cover a wide array of topics from accessible customer service to web properties and everything in between.

You may think – isn’t my website already accessible?

Doubtful. The crafting of a standard website will never meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) initially. Specific mechanisms are required in your website to comply with these guidelines. If you can’t validate your website with the W3C Validator, then your website is definitely not accessible. One response to “How does accessibility fit into your digital strategy?”

  1. This blog post really resonates with me and my team @sitecues. I start every presentation I give these days with Compliance does not equal Accessibility or Usability and then build the business case for why Accessibility is really good for business. I am now following you on twitter and look forward to more posts. Marc Zablatsky VP and General Manager of sitecues by Ai Squared.
