bv02's big night: IABC Excel Awards 2012

Jun122012

“Award-winning” is a nice term.  Some might even say more than nice.  But what does it really mean?  What makes award-winning work better than regular work?  Is there even any difference, other than the ability to host trophy-bowling tournaments?

The key difference, as far as we see it, is results.   You can be as creative as you want, but if it’s not going to get results, it’s not right for that initiative (although speaking from experience, your mom will love it.)  Award-winning work may be creative or innovative, but it also comes about through working with clients and offers measurable results.

Luckily, the IABC Excel Awards agrees with us on this one.  On Tuesday, June 5th, we joined the Ottawa chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators to celebrate the exceptional, results-getting and award-winning work produced in the Ottawa communications community this year.  The caliber of work was staggering, and we’re so proud to be part of raising the profile of Ottawa’s creative work.  Thank you to all of the organizers of the IABC Awards for an amazing evening.

We’d also like to thank our clients, because without their partnership, we wouldn’t be facing the (incredibly excellent) problem of finding more room on our boardroom trophy shelf.  Our work with Teknision, the Ministry of Education of Saskatchewan and the National Gallery of Canada was recognized at the awards ceremony last night, and we couldn’t have done it without them.  In all, bv02 took home 3 Excel Awards and a Merit Award.

What we really deserve an award for, however, is for tricking you into reading the acceptance speech we didn’t have time to give that night due to the volume of awards presented.  While you’re here, we’d like to thank the pixels, Steve’s tie, the gold-sequinned coding pants…
