National Gallery of Canada - Paolo Veronese and the Petrobelli Altarpiece

Aug272009

Paolo Veronese is arguably one of the great Venetian triumvirate of late Renaissance Mannerist painters. He was commissioned to create The Petrobelli Altarpiece which was completed in 1563. A Venetian art dealer later divided up, and sold the pieces individually for profit. For the first time since The Petrobelli Altarpiece was divided, its fragments have been reassembled and presented to the public by the National Art Gallery of Canada.

bv02 created an interactive research portal to both showcase the restoration, and to highlight the dramatic history behind The Petrobelli Altarpiece. An interactive analysis allows users to iconographically analyze the piece, while the video segments  visually explores the fascinating process which has made the exhibit possible.
