Making the Pilgrimage

Mar122011

After a rather hellish trip i’ve completed my pilgrimage to the (current) center of nerddom in the world, Austin TX. I cant wait to share the things I see and people I meet, but I figure initially I’d share my first impressions of this wonderful event.

I rolled in my cab yesterday to a sunny city filled with an army of smiling 20-30 somethings (which I am as well). Specifically SXSW’s population is 32% 20s, 40% 30s. Which leaves me feeling right at home.

The next big thing that caught my attention was how immersed we are in tech culture: As I was grabbing my first coffee someone from Mashable walked up and offered us Sad Keanu, and happy Leonardo stickers (Which I know may be too nerdy for most of even you!). Crossing the street took me to the Square Space truck where they were offering free sriracha mayo hot dogs and I had a great conversation about square space as a web/blogging platform.  The evening took us to the Expression Engine meet-up where we had the chance to talk shop with other EE developers, Ellis Labs employees, and EECI organizers. (Which we plan on attending by the way)

Anyways, I am starting my first full day at SXSW today. So I look forward to bringing you updates of the up and coming technologies in the coming days!
